Local Student Returns from French Adventure

by Lauren Gooch - July 19, 2017

Today on Home Page, Audrey Becker shares her experience of being an exchange student for a year in Normandy, France. By staying with three different host families, Audrey learned more about different lifestyles, the French culture, and the language. While the language barrier was difficult at first, Audrey speaks in the video about how she overcame those challenges. She also tells us about the high school education she received, the delicious food, and the amazing people she met. Audrey had the opportunity to travel to various other countries in Europe, and meet other exchange students from all over the world.

“We all really understand each other,” Becker said. “We’re all going through the same things. There’s a level of connection between the other exchange students that you don’t get with other people.”

She also speaks about how she has grown as a person throughout this life-changing experience. Becoming more independent, confident, outgoing, and less afraid are just a few of the changes that this wonderful experience has brought about.

“It’s a wonderful thing for personal growth,” Becker says. “Being away from home for a year is difficult, but it’s so worth it. There are so many benefits!”
