Local Churches Unite on the Green

by John Vogt - June 21, 2016

This past Sunday, the 75th Annual Pennsylvania State Laurel Festival came to it’s official close with the Unity Service on The Green.

Churches throughout the area participated together. It reminds me of when Jesus prayed for us in John 17. “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one—I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.” Seeing our church community come together in Christ is such a strong encouragement to our hearts.

Speaking of encouragement – after a time of praise and worship, Pastor Brett Kennedy delivered a powerful message on just that subject – encouragement. Please listen closely to what he says on today’s broadcast as we take a look at some of the highlights of this very moving and inspirational event.

During the second half of today’s feature, Home Page Correspondent Morgan Koziar has a more intimate visit with our newly crowned Pennsylvania State Laurel Queen, Valerie Smith and her family. Valerie talks about her faith, God’s hand in her life, her grandmother’s influence, the process of running as a Laurel Queen candidate, her passions, and further plans. Valerie is looking forward to coming back to Wellsboro and participating in next year’s Laurel Festival activities.

A special thanks to the Wellsboro Ministerium and all the participating churches that made this year’s Unity Service on The Green such an encouragement to us all.

God Bless,
John Vogt
