Local Choruses to Perform on Sunday!

by Sara Vogt - November 6, 2014

Come enjoy a special concert this Sunday – For Love of God and Country performed by the Wednesday Morning Musicales Chorus and the Wellsboro Women’s Chorus.

In today’s feature Diana Frazier tells us how her love of music started at a young age as she took piano lessons herself. Diana graduated with a music degree from Mansfield University and later taught at Liberty Schools. She has also taught many of our children piano in her own home, which she still continues to do to this day, with thirty students currently talking lessons. She also expressed her enjoyment in directing the two musical groups.

The Wednesday Morning Musicales were organized in December 1934 – approximately 80 years ago. This group was organized to promote interest in music. One of the objectives was to organize a choral group within the club. The chorus performs for one of the meetings during the year for the Wednesday Morning Musicale Club. Marian Miller is the accompanist and Diana Frazier is the director.

The Wellsboro Women’s Chorus started in 1979 with five members. Pat Davis served as both pianist and director for about 10 years. The chorus now has openings for up to 15 members in each of the 3 voice parts – Soprano 1, Soprano 2, and Alto. The chorus is always eager to sing at any functions.

The For Love of God & Country concert will start at 2 PM at the United Methodist Church on Main Street in Wellsboro. After the concert desserts will be served in the basement of the church. A freewill offering would be appreciated in support of the concert and desserts. The accompanist is Judy Smithgall and Diana Frazier is the director.

Some of the songs that will be performed include The Star-Spangled Banner, The Prayer, Thank You Soldiers and God Bless America to name just a few.

If you are interested in joining one or both of the groups featured today, please call Diana Frazier at (570) 724-5926 or e-mail her at tim1lynne@epix.net.
