Local Athletes Advance From D4 Wrestling Championship
On Friday, February 21st and Saturday, February 22nd the PIAA District 4 class AA and AAA wrestling championship took place at Williamsport High School.
The following athletes will advance to compete at the regional tournament this weekend, also in Williamsport.
At 289, Troy’s Reed Palmer placed 7th. In his final match he was pinned in 55 seconds by Landen Morehart from Montoursville.
At 189, Wellsboro’s Ryder Bowen placed 4th, being felled by Coy Bryson from Montgomery 19-3.
At 152, North Penn-Liberty’s Riley Oakes placed 7th, defeated 14-8 by Brayden Andrews of Southern Colombia.
At 145, Canton’s Carson Rockwell placed 4th, facing Matthew Smith from Midwest, losing by decision 11-4.
At 107, North Penn-Liberty’s Bohdi Nickerson placed 7th, lost by major decision to Rowen Humphrey from Southern Colombia.
Finally, at 114, Canton’s Lyle Vermilya placed 4th – falling to Chase Wirnsberger from Warrior Run.
And North Penn-Liberty’s Bryce Pequignot came out victorious in the 114 weight class – defeating Wirnsberger in the championship bout by major decision – 8-0.
North Penn-Liberty’s Brayden Pequignot and Canton’s Tommy Preston will also move on to regionals – Friday, February 28th and Saturday, March 1st at Williamsport High School.
