Liberty soccer shuts out Troy, 5-0
The North Penn-Liberty boys soccer team scored a 5-0 shutout victory over Troy at home on Monday, October 2.
The Mounties scored three goals in the first half, two of which were scored by Luke Yoder. Yoder scored unassisted on the game’s opening goal five minutes into the game for the early lead, then used a pass from freshman Nelson to put the Mounties up 2-0 with 28 second left in the half.
Liberty added one more goal with 3 seconds left in the first half as midfielder Nathaniel Johnson came out of nowhere for the goal off another Nelson assist.
Yoder capped off a hat trick with 8:15 remaining in the second half with Nelson assisting for the third time on the night.
Liberty added one more goal just a minute later as Jonathan Nelson scored off a Nathaniel Johnston assist.
Both teams took 14 shots during the course of the game and Troy had a 8-4 advantage in corner kicks. Liberty’s Riley Walker made 9 saves in goal while the Trojans tallied 7.
The Mounties will be back in action on Wednesday, October 4 as they host Williamson.
