On Wednesday January 21 the North Penn-liberty Mounties hosted the Wellsboro hornets on the basketball court. It was a defense heavy bout with the Mounties coming out on top after a lot of back and fourth 42-37.

First quarter, Luke Kreger kicks the ball to the top of the key to Landen Mattern for the three. Wellsboro responds as Mareck Mascho brings down the board and sends it back up for two. Then Hornet Luke Rothermel drives the basket for 2Next the Mounties tie up the score 8-8 just before the buzzer as Mattern shoots and Evan mctish is there for cleanup.

Second quarter, the Mounties find a rhythm starting off with a Mattern 3 from the outside nothing but net. Wellsboros’ Johnathan Carl gets big in the paint for two keeping the ballgame neck and neck. But the Mounties were hungry for more as Sudan Benner kicks out to Brody Grinnell who sends up the deep. Three. Going into halftime the score was 19-15 Mounties on top.

Third quarter Grinnell keeps the pressure on with another beautiful three. But Wellsboro smelled blood in the water breaking the tie as Colin Fletcher dives the basket for a reversal. After some back and forth, game tied up yet agin but is broken by Griffin Moral with a big steal and he capitalizes. To round out the third Fletcher hits a great three from the baseline. Wellsboro on top going into the 4th 31-29

But the Mounties had victory on their mind as Mattern hits his own baseline three.Then to finish off the hornets and keep the lead big steal from Conner Lewis who feeds it up to Kreger for the finish. the Mounties take home the victory after a very close game 42-37
