LeRoy Local Priming Pups for Forever Homes
It’s a story of generosity, patience, and a love for the canine companions that become part of the family in many households. The owner of a dog training business and boarding facility in Leroy Township has been donating some of her time and energy to work with shelter dogs in need of some minor behavior modification. The goal? Helping these often misunderstood animals find their forever homes. Elaina Strozyk has been training dogs for four years. Along the way she started helping some local shelters train canines that have otherwise struggled to get adopted. The backstories of shelter dogs vary, and each one that has come to Der Wachter has had its own unique set of needs. Some are like Tug, a Rottweiler that was found in a field by a local farmer. After getting him to the shelter safely, no one was was able to approach Tug without eliciting a frightening reaction. But over the course of several weeks and many visits to the shelter, Elaina slowly won Tug over. Other dogs may be like Bhodi, who has only ever known the shelter. The energetic and distractible year-old mixed breed came to the Bradford County Humane Society as a puppy about a year ago, and has been working with Elaina for the past couple weeks. Tug has found a home with Elaina, who has a soft spot for Rottweilers. Bhodi, however, will be looking for his forever home after completing his training at Der Wachter. Anyone interested in Bhodi can message Der Wachter Obedience Training and Kennels on Facebook, or contact the Bradford County Humane Society at (570) 888-2114. Those interested in boarding their dogs with Elaina or scheduling a private training session can also reach out to her via Facebook or by calling (570) 250-0448
