Laurel Mountain K9 Search and Rescue

by Deb Bastian - October 5, 2022

If you are ever lost in the woods, the Laurel Mountain K9 Search and Rescue might be called in to help the first responders find you. This amazing group in Tioga County is comprised of dedicated trainers, and their well trained dogs.

The organization is a 501(c)(3), and accepts donations to help continue the important work that they do. They may be called from anywhere in Pennsylvania or even eastern United States to help located someone missing. It may be an individual with Alzheimer’s who has wandered, perhaps a hunter who has lost their way. Whatever the circumstances, the dogs may make the difference in finding someone in time. The trainers with their dog travel at their own expense to assist, sometimes even sleeping in their car.

The Laurel Mountain K9 Search and Rescue welcomes volunteers to help them train. They will train in different locations and need people to hide for the dogs to find. A dog may be trained in air scent, trailing and/or finding human remains. To the dog, it is a game with a special reward when the person or item is found. The reward may be as simple as a ball to fetch or a little jar of baby food!

Their website is laurelmountaink9.com. There are pictures and information as well as a donation button to make it easy to support their important work.
