Lady Tigers top Williamson in OT
The North Penn-Mansfield Tigers picked up a 2-1 overtime win over Williamson on Tuesday, October 3.
The Lady Tigers struck first off a Williamson thrown in with 25 minutes remaining. Mansfield took over possession and advanced the ball up field where Kiersten Mitstifer cleaned up a bobble by the keeper and then sent a shot to the back of the net for the goal.
At the half, North Penn-Mansfield led 1-0.
Williamson tied it up in the second half off a Mansfield thrown in. Williamson gained control of the ball and worked it up field to Sarah Learn, who finished opposite corner to tie it up at 1-1.
Neither team was able to score the rest of the way, sending the game into overtime.
20 seconds into the overtime period, Mitstifer pressed up field and was tackled deep in Williamson territory. Alyssa Remely came up with the ball and sent a shot towards the goal that bounced off the post, then Rice came up with it and sent a shot past the keeper for the game winner.
The win improves the Tigers’ record to 3-7-1. The team will be back in action tomorrow night on the road in Troy.
