Lady Mounties top Pitt-Bradford, 69-51
MANSFIELD – Tianna Jackson and Brielle Kelly each scored a game-high 15 points to lead Mansfield past Pitt-Johnstown 69-51 Wednesday night in non-conference play at First Citizens Community Bank Court at Decker Gymnasium.
Both sides traded baskets through the opening minutes of play to hold a 7-7 tie at the 6:41 mark. Mansfield (2-5, 0-4 PSAC) put together a 16-0 run aided by back-to-back trifectas by Jackson, then a triple by Bella Ricci before Jackson completed an old fashioned 3-point play. Mansfield carried a 15-9 lead into the second quarter.
Pitt-Bradford (2-5, 1-1 AMCC) closed within nine points at 29-20 with 7:18 to play in the second quarter but the Mountaineers maintained a double-digit lead for the majority of the quarter. Mansfield outscored the Panthers 20-19 in the second quarter to hold a 45-28 halftime advantage.
Mansfield held a slight 24-23 scoring advantage in the second half to claim its second win of the season.
Kelly connected on 6-12 shots from the floor, including a 3-pointer, and grabbed 10 boards for her third double-double of the season. Jackson also hit six field goals, with two coming from behind the arc, along with four assists.
Ricci knocked down three treys to hit double-figure scoring for the fourth time this season with 11 and also recorded a season-high nine rebounds. Morgan Westbrook pulled down a season-best 12 boards and chipped in six points.
Alyssa Mullins blocked four shots in the game.
Brittany Watts led Pitt-Bradford with 13 points while Darien Lantz added 11 points.
The Mountaineers held a big 54-35 rebounding advantage in the game.
Mansfield travel to IUP on Saturday.
