Lady Hornets Win On Senior Night

by Ed Weaver - February 22, 2021

The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Basketball team ended a two-game losing skid by beating Troy 43-36 during their Senior Night on Friday, February 19.

After trailing early the Lady Hornets came back to tie the game up at 13-all after the first quarter. Troy then went on a an 11-6 run to retake the lead at 24-19.

Wellsboro and coach John Davis’s halftime adjustments worked as they quickly tied the game up and held Troy to just 5 third quarter points. Troy held a slim 29-28 lead entering the fourth quarter, but that wouldn’t last long as the Lady Hornets went on a 15-7 run and held Troy to just two field goals over the final 8 minutes to earn the win.

Junior Emma Coolidge led Wellsboro with 12 points, senior Bailey Monks finished with 8, senior Kiyah Boyce and sophomore Rylie Boyce finished with 7 points apiece, junior Abbye Cavanaugh added 5 points, and seniors Kathryn Burnett and Sarah Mosher chipped in 4 points each.

Sydney Taylor led all scorers with 15 points.

Troy avoided the sweep by barely winning the JV game, 17-16 in overtime. Freshman Emily Morris led the young Lady Hornets with 10 points.

The win improves the Lady Hornets’ record to 4-6 (3-6 NTL Large School Division).
