Lady Hornets cruise past Troy

The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Bsaketball team cruised to a 52-21 win over Troy on Wednesday, February 6 during Senior Night.

The Lady Hornets jumped out to an early 17-3 lead after the first quarter then outscored Troy 11-4 in the second quarter to build their lead at 28-7 at halftime. Wellsboro outscored Troy 24-14 in the second half to go on for the win and improve move back over .500 at 10-9 for the season.

Senior Emma Poirier led all scorers on the night with 14 points, junior Cathryn Brought had 13 points, junior Liza Manning had 9 points, and sophomore Bailey Monks added 8 points off the bench. Sophomores Jena Boyce and Kiyah Boyce and seniors Dani Hunt and Heidi Zuchowski all added 2 points each.

Monks grabbed 5 rebounds, Brought added 4 steals, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists, Poirier finished with 3 steals and 3 assists, and Zuchowski, Boyce, and Manning all had 2 rebounds each. Boyce and Manning also added blocked shots on the night.

Wellsboro started the night with a 32-22 win in the JV game to improve to 8-7 overall. Freshman Lindsey Marmara had 14 to lead the Lady Hornets.

The win in the Varsity game improves the Lady Hornets’ record to 10-9 overall and 10-3 in the NTL Large School Division standings. The team is back in action for the final time at home on Friday, February 8 against Williamson.
