June 27, 2022 will be Dr. Briggs last day as superintendent of CASD

by Tanya Route - June 9, 2022

CANTON – Six years ago a young 38 year old Eric Briggs accepted the superintendent position here at Canton Area School District. On June 27th, Dr. Briggs transitioned to be the superintendent at South Williamsport School District. Starting his career out of college, Dr. Briggs had a dual degree in elementary education and special education. Briggs landed his first job in Maryland in Special Education and had a 10 year plan to be out of the classroom and into a leadership role. Briggs earned his Special Education Supervisor degree then this principal certification before finishing up with his superintendent certification. Canton has been his first role as superintendent.

Briggs talked about his feeling welcomed in Canton and the strong sense of community we share. Briggs remarked on how the staff of CASD stepped up to the plate and went virtual within three and half days when COVID hit. The willingness of staff to pivot so quickly to help the students retain and progress during the pandemic was one of Briggs biggest praises about the staff at CASD. Briggs also was quick to mention how much progress the students have made in recent months in academics. Athletic accomplishments of the CASD athletes were also on his mind. Briggs was impressed by the hard working, never give up attitude of our student athletes.

Briggs will keep a special place in his heart for CASD and be always grateful for the chance our school board took on him. If you would like to have some say in the incoming superintendent please fill out this survey created to give the community a voice.
