Hornets top Towanda on Senior Night

The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Basketball team ran their win streak to 17 games with a 69-48 win against Towanda on Tuesday, February 5 during Senior Night.

The Hornets jumped out to an early 23-13 lead after the opening quarter then kept the pressure on defensively to lead 40-22 at halftime. Wellsboro came out of the locker room and put up 20 third quarter points to extend their lead to 60-33 heading into the fourth quarter. As Wellsboro played their bench for the majority of the fourth Towanda made a run, and outscored the Hornets 15-9, but Wellsboro was to far in front.

Senior Brandyn Tuttle led all scorers with 17 points and senior Andrew Brelo scored 16 points to lead Wellsboro. Senior Holden Kennedy and sophomore Joseph Grab scored 7 points each, senior Tanner Button scored 6 points, senior Cam Tennis and junior Daniel Mitchell added 5 points each, and senior Hunter Brown and Andrew Larson scored 3 points each.

Tuttle added 8 rebounds and 3 assists, Tennis grabbed 5 rebounds and made 3 steals, Brelo had 4 rebounds and 5 steals, and Button made 5 steals. Grab added 4 assists to his point total, Kennedy made 3 steals, and Brown finished with 2 rebounds.

In the JV game the Hornets rallied from a 20-18 halftime deficit to win 46-38 to improve to 8-9 on the season. Freshman Isaac Keane had 17 points to lead the Hornets while junior Ty Morral added 12.

The win improves the Hornets’ record to 17-2 overall and keeps them undefeated at 14-0 in the NTL Large School Division standings. The team will be back in action on Thursday, February 7 as they host St. John Neumann.
