The Wellsboro Hornets boys tennis team put together a strong performance on Monday, April 20th, defeating the South Williamsport Mountaineers 4-1 at Packer Park.

Wellsboro set the tone early in singles play. Luke Rothermel earned a convincing win over Carson Harris in straight sets, 6-0, 6-3, while Mason Brill delivered a dominant showing, shutting out Sawyer Fry 6-0, 6-0.

South Williamsport’s lone point came in a hard-fought third singles match, where Dylan Webb edged RJ Doughtie in a three-set thriller, 6-4, 5-7, 7-6.

The Hornets responded in doubles action to secure the match. Gideon Lawton and James Doughtie battled past Levi Jackson and David Miller in three sets, 6-3, 6-7, 6-3. Meanwhile, Tavi Wyman and Stephen Poirer sealed the victory with a straight-sets win over Nate Miller and Cameron Stahl, 6-3, 6-1.

Wellsboro won the meet with an overall 4-1 team result and will return to the court Thursday when they host Muncy.
