Hornets Sting Tigers in 4-1 Home Victory
The Wellsboro Hornets boys soccer team lit up the scoreboard Wednesday night, powering past the Galeton Tigers in a 4-1 win on their home field.
It didn’t take long for the Hornets to strike. Just two minutes into the match, Gabe Cuneo sent a perfectly placed through ball to David Seeling, who buried it past the keeper for an early 1-0 lead.
Wellsboro kept the pressure on, and 10 minutes later, Cameron Owlett played the ball into the middle where Jacob Smith launched a rocket into the top corner. The Hornets took a 2-0 cushion into halftime.
The momentum continued in the second half as Smith split Galeton’s defense before finding Johnathan Carl in the box. Carl converted to stretch the lead to 3-0 with 30 minutes remaining.
Galeton avoided the shutout in the 68th minute, when Gavin Shutt’s long-range free kick deflected off the keeper and Corbin Basile tapped in the rebound to cut the deficit to 3-1.
But Wellsboro had the final word. With 10 minutes left, Jude Cuneo’s free kick was parried away, only for Peter Doan to finish the rebound, sealing a 4-1 Hornets victory.
The Hornets (next game: Oct. 7 vs. Northeast Bradford) will look to keep their momentum rolling, while Galeton heads to Coudersport later today.
