Hornets Sting Early, Split the Night with Muncy on the Mat

by Wyatt Wood - February 6, 2026

The Wellsboro Hornets girls and boys wrestling teams welcomed Muncy to their home mat on Thursday, February 5th, kicking off an action-packed night of competition.

Girls Take Control Early

The evening began with the girls’ matchup, and Wellsboro wasted no time setting the tone.

At 100 pounds, Isla Twoey opened the match with a win by forfeit. Momentum continued at 124, where Zoe Kunkle battled to a hard-fought 14–11 decision over Rosa Sguera.

Pins followed in quick succession. Kaelyn Peterson (130) pinned Adelynn Holmes, and at 136, Katherine Whitney secured a fall against Lillian Kramer just 2:27 into the second period.

Wellsboro picked up additional points through forfeits from Peyton Weatherby (142), Riley Kilburn (170), and Sadie O’Dell (235). At 190, Phoebe Bowen added a key victory by defeating Piper Diehl.

By night’s end, the Hornets girls claimed a convincing 36–9 team victory over Muncy.

Boys Battle, Muncy Pulls Away

After a break, the boys teams took to the mat with intensity from the opening bout.

Wellsboro jumped out early with a forfeit win by Gannon Swank at 107, followed by a pin from Mason Green at 114. At 121, Roman Maiorana earned a technical fall over Connor Linden, and Gabe Swank added another forfeit win at 127.

The Hornets saw standout pins from Kase Snyder, who needed just 40 seconds to finish Vaughn Shannon at 133, and Hayden Stevens, who closed the night with a 45-second pin over Dylan Sander at 215. Wyatt Kilburn also picked up a second-period victory at 172.

Despite the strong individual performances, Muncy’s depth proved decisive, as the Indians took the boys team match 47–18.

A Night of Effort and Excitement

With the girls earning a dominant home win and the boys delivering several highlight-reel moments, the Hornets showed grit and talent across both matches.
