Hornets Shine Through the Rain, Kosek Sets Record at Molly Dry Invitational

by Wyatt Wood, Andrew Moore - April 3, 2026

Despite soggy conditions on Thursday, April 2, the Wellsboro Hornets track and field team delivered a standout performance at the Molly Dry Invitational, highlighted by record-breaking efforts and multiple top finishes.

Leading the way for the Lady Hornets was Lauren Kosek, who dominated the girls 1600-meter run. Kosek not only cruised to a first-place finish, but also shattered both the meet record and a Wellsboro school record with an impressive time of 5:06.

Wellsboro saw more success on the track in the girls sprints, as Piper Hoprich continued her strong season. Hoprich captured first place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.58, narrowly missing the meet record she set a year ago. She also went on to win the 200-meter dash. Teammate Luna Moyer added to the team’s point total with a third-place finish in the 100 at 13.34.

In relay action, the Lady Hornets’ 4×100-meter team of Sophie Yoder, Luna Moyer, Dillyn Patt, and Piper Hoprich sprinted to a first-place finish in 51.14, just shy of the meet record of 50.66.

On the boys side, Wellsboro’s 4×800-meter relay team of Max Macias, Jude Cuneo, Ethan Geneski, and Henry Whitney placed third with a time of 9:12. Whitney also added an individual third-place finish in the 1600-meter run, clocking in at 4:34. David Seeling contributed with a strong second-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles.

In the team standings, the Wellsboro girls placed second overall with 150.5 points, finishing behind Corning’s 215 and ahead of Jersey Shore’s 127. On the boys side, Wellsboro finished third with 103 points, trailing Bradford (219) and Corning (166.5).
