Hornets Defeat Athens Wildcats!
The Wellsboro Hornets traveled to Athens this past Friday night to take on the Wildcats.
The Hornets got off to a great start when Michael Pietropola passed to Kieron Smethers for an 86 yard touchdown during their very first possession. Dylan Widows stopped a Wildcats drive with an interception at the goal line. By the end of the first quarter, the Hornets were up 6-0.
Second quarter – Levi Mack exploded through the middle of the Wildcats defense for a 29 yard run. Shortly there after, Pietropola made a touchdown dash. The night wasn’t without error At the end of the half, Wellsboro was ahead, 12-0.
Second half – Hornets kicked-off to Athens and the Wildcats started 1st and 10 at their 35. But the Hornets defense stopped the Wildcats in their tracks, forcing them to punt. Later on in the 3rd quarter, Levi Mack put another 6 points on the board for Wellsboro. Wildcats ball, 1st and 10 on their 21 – Tony Cooper intercepted a pass, interrupting Athens drive. Michael Pietropola scored again, and the two-point conversion attempt was good, marking the score 26-0. Still in the third quarter, Kieron Smethers scores another touchdown for the Hornets after receiving a bomb-pass from Pietropola.
Fourth quarter – another Hornet touchdown from Levi Mack. The extra point by Smethers was good. The game ended with Wellsboro leading, 41-0.
