Hornet Happenings – Student Council
In this month’s edition of Hornet Happenings, Principal David Krick highlights the high school’s student council. The council is very active in the school as well as the Wellsboro community. Today’s highlight features a few of the council members, including President Natalie Mee, Homecoming Chair Jessica Smith, and District Conference President Darci Warriner. The 23 student council members meet on the first Wednesday of every month with two goals in mind: to promote school spirit through leadership and involve the community with the school.
President Mee also acts a representative for the school as she attends meetings with the Wellsboro Area Chamber of Commerce.
Homecoming Chair Jessica Smith has been instrumental in putting together the school’s Spirit Week, a window decorating contest, and the homecoming parade. These events encourage positivity within the student body and involve the community at large.
District Conference President Darci Warriner is currently working at preparing the school for the Student Council District 7 conference that will take place at Wellsboro Area High School. “We will have many difference schools coming [here]. They will participate in many leadership activities,” Warriner stated. We’ll have two keynote speakers and a guest speaker that will tell us about our charity, the Children’s Miracle Netowrk.”
Mr. Krick also spoke with student council advisor, Mrs. Jodi Niver. If students want to apply for a position on the student council, she instructed them to do so by way of the website, visiting her in Room 207, or by attaching an application to the student council bulletin board. The criteria are listed in the video above. “I feel [the student council] is very much in tune with trying to represent the needs of the students,” Niver commented. “They want to make sure every student is recognized. We value every student in the school.” The student council arranges many activities, from fun to scholastic. Niver closed with, “We want every student to feel valued as well as to be heard.”
