Hornet Happenings – The Java Hive
Today on Hornet Happenings, Mr. David Krick, principal of the Senior High School, highlights two of the vocational opportunities that the students can experience in the school. Mr. Joe Mercuri, the instructor of Culinary Arts also shares about his work with the students. Mercuri and three seniors worked together to create The Java Hive – a new cafe in the high school library. These three students, Zoey Powell, Miranda Dunham and Megan Gee, came up with the idea for the cafe, made decisions on what the menu should be, what equipment they would need and how it would be built. They brought their proposition to the school’s Building & Construction class, instructed by Mr. Drew Seeling, and they took over the construction process of the cafe. The Building & Construction class students have undertaken the development of a number of the school’s facilities.
Both of these programs offer students opportunities to practice real-world skills and recognize the rewards of their hard work.
