Hornet Happenings – First Edition!
Today’s Hornet Happenings is highlights the opportunities our music students have to further their studies in band and chorus (to a more rigorous level and outside of our classrooms and concerts.) In early fall any student interested in pursuing these opportunities (by participating in Pre-Auds) contacts Mrs. Smithgall. She will distribute to them scales, a solo, and music used for sight reading. Students that are successful with this stage of the process with Mrs. Smithgall go to Pre-Auds and compete with 500 – 600 other students from District 8.
The successful students (around 150 for band, 160 for chorus, and 90 for Orchestra) will then proceed to PMEA’s District 8 festivals. Each festival consists of multiple days of auditioning, practice and culminates with a concert (usually conducted by a college professor) – which gives the students insight to college level studies of music. If a student places high enough at Districts they will proceed to the Regional level and go through the same multi-day process. The ultimate goal is to make it to the next level of the All-State Festivals.
Today’s video features a few of the students that were successful at getting to this year’s District Band Festival in Troy. Watch the video above to learn more!
