Holy Cross Outlasts Trojans In OT, 72-68
On Saturday, March 8th, the Troy Trojans boys basketball team hosted the Holy Cross Crusaders in the PIAA Class AAA state quarterfinals. It was an intense back and forth game, going all the way into overtime.
Holy Cross started the night strong, breaking the full court press wide open and draining the three.
Later in the first, Troy responds – Lincoln Chimics lasers the ball to Jack Burbage in the post.
The Crusaders continued to outpace the Trojans in the first quarter, 20-10. By halftime they had increased their lead, 34-26. But everything changed in the second half.
The Trojans rallied in the third, eventually overtaking the Crusaders. They stayed on top going into the fourth quarter, 49-44. Both teams hungry to go to the semi-finals.
Holy Cross rained down three pointers, leading by two points as the clock neared expiration. With one second remaining in the game, Holy Cross still on top, Woodward brought down the board and sent it up to tie the score.
The Crusader defense kept the Trojans at bay and pulled out ahead, finishing the quarterfinal only 4-points up – final score: 72-68.
