Help Goodwill help our community!

by Morgan Koziar - May 2, 2014

Today on Wellsboro Home Page we visited the local Goodwill store here in Wellsboro. Goodwill is a non-profit organization that has been around for over 100 years. We spoke with Vice President of Retail, Paul Guzik, Retail Manager Lisa McCloski, and Employment Specialist Sue Whitey about the different ways we can give back to our community and how Goodwill is a stepping stone for individuals that are facing obstacles entering the workforce.

Goodwill creates jobs, and has drop-off locations where you can donate used items to be sold as consignment. Goodwill strives to enhance the dignity and quality of life of individuals and families by helping people reach their full potential through education, skills-training and the power of work. Goodwill meets the needs of all job seekers, including programs for youth, seniors, veterans, and people with disabilities, criminal backgrounds and other specialized needs.

Last year, Goodwill helped more than 216,00 earn jobs and get the supporting services they needed to be successful — such as English language training, additional education, or access to transportation and child care. Goodwill’s mission is to work to enhance the dignity and quality of life of individuals and families by strengthening communities, eliminating barriers to opportunity, and helping people in need reach their full potential through learning and the power of work.

Our local Goodwill offers a number of special deals. Paul Guzik mentioned that there are “colored tags” on various clothing items throughout the store. Every week there is a select color that is 50% off! Every Sunday and Monday there is a 49-cent clothing special, and house ware, furniture and electrical items are 35 cents! For more information on Goodwill, visit GoodWill.org!
