Heart of Tioga 2nd Annual Golf Tournament May 23rd
Heart of Tioga is hosting their second annual golf tournament on Monday, May 23rd at the Tyoga Golf Course in Wellsboro. There is a shotgun start at 1:00 pm, with sign-up from noon until 12:45. Following the tournament, there will be a picnic supper.
Heart of Tioga is the only crisis pregnancy care center in Tioga and Potter counties. The center also helps women who are not in crisis. It exists because of a prayer meeting and is supported by churches and the community. There is no government funding for the organization. The board of directors consists of community members including a pastor, Mansfield University professor and a medical doctor.
Sharon Quimby, the Executive Director has been with Heart of Tioga from the beginning. “We are 100% for life and offer information and non-judgmental caring support. Sometimes a woman arrives at Heart of Tioga fearful, and is able to leave encouraged, and with a plan.” Free pregnancy tests and a free ultrasound, administered by a trained nurse sonographer, is available to women between 5 and 22 weeks pregnant. The ultrasound is a way for women to confirm that they are pregnant, the gestational age, heart rate, or to just see their baby. Free pregnancy and parenting classes are also offered on a weekly basis at the center and there is a trained advocate to assist. Videos are streamed offering a wide variety of topics from which the client can choose. Participants can earn Baby Bucks to spend in the Baby Boutique to purchase necessary items such as a car seat, stroller, high chair, etc. It is possible to earn everything needed to bring a baby home through the Baby Bucks program. All services are completely confidential and there is no income requirement to be helped.
