Hamilton-Gibson Auditions!
Tioga County’s community theatre arts group, Hamilton-Gibson Productions, announces auditions for their spring musical. “You think you’ve heard the story of the fair damsel in the tower with the long hair,” said Thomas Putnam, Artistic Director of the group. “Set aside those early picture books. Set aside the Tangled dvd. Get ready for this delightful new musical by the creators of How I Became a Pirate. The show has the same singable witty tunes and the same clever script that we enjoyed in the Pirate show. All the same basic elements as the story you may know, plus a few new ones.”
Auditions for Rapunzel will be Saturday, January 10 at 4:00; and Sunday, January 11 at 1:00, at the Warehouse Theatre, Central Avenue, Wellsboro, PA. Roles include the following women’s roles: Rapunzel—a young woman; Lady Za Za, Rapunzel’s outrageous and wicked aunt; Gypsy Woman—cross between Fran Drescher and a hypochondriac Jersey Housewife; Another woman. Men’s roles include the following: Socrates—an older enchanted dragon; Sir Roderick—handsome young man on a quest; Edgar—a fabulous hair stylist; Another man. Performances are in April, including school time performances for area schools. The entire production is sponsored by Ward Manufacturing.
The community arts group is now accepting applications for internships for the summer of 2015. Requirements are that the intern be at least 18 years old, and hopefully studying for involvement with some form of performing arts or work with not-for-profit groups. Responsibilities typically include involvement with all of the summer shows either performing or stage managing or house managing. The intern would be involved with marketing and set building and strike. He/she would also be involved with the planning and staffing of the three summer drama camps (one in Elkland, one in Blossburg, and one in Wellsboro.) There is also a fair amount of office time with computer work with our data bases, press releases, and internet marketing. To get a true feel for the work of community theater, there is also mundane work like cleaning floors and restrooms, maintaining the office space, mowing the lawn at the office etc.
This summer promises to be busy. Our major production will be, THE ADDAMS FAMILY. We will also be involved with early preparations for the fall play, STEEL MAGNOLIAS. Three summer drama camps will also keep the interns hopping.
The internship typically begins in the middle of May when most colleges complete their semester, and continue into mid-August. This year’s sponsors are Mr. Eugene Seelye, and Deb and Jeff Sawyer who provide the stipend for the interns.
It’s a lot of fun and lots of work, but HG has found that the experience is rewarding for both the intern and everyone involved with HG. If you are interested in applying, please call or write Hamilton-Gibson Productions, 29 Water Street, Wellsboro, PA 16901, 570.724.2079 or email at hamgib@gmail.com.
