Haircut On the Line As FFA Students Hold Sugar Shack Wager
A fun and friendly wager is taking place at Wellsboro High School among the FFA students and a challenge issued to their sugar shack and maple production. The Grand Canyon FFA Chapter runs a maple syrup sugar shack at the high school and they’ve been busy collecting tree sap – with a special goal in mind.
“We were trying to make 15 gallons,” said FFA student Trevor Martin. “There’s a kid up here that works in the sugar shack with us – his name is Vaughn Shannon – and he has really long hair. And we made a deal with him that if we got 15 gallons he would cut a fair bit of hair off of him, cuz he’s got really long hair.”
The sugar shack is currently at 13 gallons of maple syrup, nearing their goal. Chairman of the sugar shack Jordan Pierce recently brought 175 gallons of his own maple sap to turn into syrup in an effort to push their goal over the edge.
“My favorite thing about running the sugar shack is getting to see what all your hard work turns into,” said Pierce. “And getting other people involved. I wanna see more people get involved in the maple industry in the future.”
