Goodies For Our Troops rocks!

by Stacey Dondey - October 3, 2017

Nothing is worse than being away from family, friends and the familiarity of home. But for America’s service members and their families, this is a fact of life. Countless holidays, special occasions and even the births of their own children can be missed while deployed. According to the US Department of Veterans Affairs, a mere .4% of our citizens are currently serving, while only 7% of our entire population will ever choose to answer the call in their lifetime. The brave few that make the choice are scattered across the globe, but they are hardly forgotten.

Wellsboro’s Dawn Pletcher shows us her operation; Goodies for the Troops and how her volunteers are boosting morale across the globe. Since 2005, packages filled with a taste of home have been shipped all over the world from Wellsboro, PA. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9am – 12pm volunteers are compiling heartfelt goodies for our military. (Dawn and Goodies For Our Troops is sending a care package of rocks! Find out why by watching today’s feature video!)

What might a service member receive from Goodies besides a gigantic smile? The assortment ranges depending on gender, season, holiday and deployment region. Basic sundries that we take for granted, which are not readily available overseas are always included. Things like homemade goodies, lip balm, eye drops, candy, lotion, feminine products, cotton socks/underwear, toiletries, magazines, jerky, local newspapers, children’s art work and personalized notes are all gratefully received.

These care packages are a window to the world that our brave service members have left behind. It reminds them of what they are fighting for. “Makes me know why I am in this place, doing what I am doing, so that those kids hopefully wont have to live in a time of war.”

We urge all our Homepage viewers to reach out to a service member and thank them for their selfless service. For those sacrificing Americans currently overseas, a care package is a lasting and tangible memento of gratitude. To do more, contact Dawn Pletcher at Goodies for our Troops, 87 Main Street, Wellsboro, PA or call (570) 662-5601.
