Global Maker Day 2019

by Home Page Staff - October 30, 2019

by Havah Simcox and John Vogt

On today’s broadcast, Home Page cameras were busy capturing the second annual Global Maker Day event presented by the Southern Tioga School District. This year’s Global Maker Day broadcast was handled by some of our younger Home Page Team members with Katie Mossman on the Anchor Desk and Correspondents Havah Simcox and Gracie Bishop doing the interviews.

Havah had an excellent opportunity to talk with Library Media Specialist Jennifer Nawri, and High School Helper Patelin Nowak about the project and how it benefits students.

During the second half of today’s feature, Gracie visits with Teacher and Library Media Specialist Sarah Murray, High School Helper Johnny Harding, and High School Helper Zoie McDermott. We find out about student interaction, problem-solving, and why a program like this is so important.

Global Maker Day is a global effort to create locally and then share globally. Students work together as a group to solve problems and navigate challenges while unplugged. That means no technology.

The Southern Tioga School District continues to excel in the hands-on learning experiences through projects like Global Maker Day. Students have the opportunity to think, create, and collaborate with other students as an essential part of learning how to problem-solve.
