Warriors Dominate Season Opener, Down Rangers 17-6

by Wyatt Wood - August 25, 2025

The Canton Warriors opened their 2025 football season with an impressive home-field victory Friday night, defeating the Northwest Area Rangers 17-6 in a hard-fought defensive battle.

The first quarter set the tone for a physical matchup, with both teams’ defenses holding firm until the Rangers broke through on a sideline drive into the red zone. Northwest Area capitalized when Loegan Diltz took a direct snap and powered up the middle for the game’s first touchdown. The extra point attempt missed, leaving the Rangers ahead 6-0.

Momentum shifted in the second quarter when the Rangers fumbled deep in their own territory. Canton’s Grant Jennings recovered the ball, giving the Warriors prime field position inside the 10-yard line. Just a few plays later, Canton fumbled at the goal line — but Daniel Inman alertly scooped up the loose ball and dove across for the Warriors’ first score. After kicker Alexis McRoberts drilled the extra point, Canton took a 7-6 lead heading into halftime.

The Warriors came out strong in the second half, leaning on their ground game. Early in the third quarter, Bailey Gardner broke free for a 30-yard rush to ignite the Canton offense. Moments later, Gardner capped the drive with another explosive run to extend the lead. McRoberts converted the extra point, pushing Canton ahead 14-6.

With just over six minutes remaining in the third, McRoberts came up big again, this time splitting the uprights on a 30-yard field goal to give Canton the final points of the night.

From there, it was all defense. Both teams tightened up in the fourth quarter, with neither side giving an inch as the Warriors closed out their first win of the season.

The Canton Warriors now sit at 1-0 and will return to action this Friday, August 29th when they host the South Williamsport Mountaineers.
