First Presbyterian Church Looks to Restore Historic Building
The First Presbyterian Church of Troy recently submitted a grant application with the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission with the hope of using the funds to restore its historic building. While the total cost of the restoration project is estimated at $200,000, the grant — if approved — will only cover $100,000 of the cost. The remaining $100,000 needed is currently being raised by the church via a capital campaign. The church has raised more than $80,000 from local sources as of this past week. Three areas that the church hopes to restore include the tin ceiling of the sanctuary, the steeple, and the mortar in the brick exterior of the building. If the grant funding is approved, the church hopes to start construction in September 2025. The plan is to have renovations finished in September 2026, in time for a rededication at the building’s 150th anniversary in December 2026.
