Fiddler on the Roof

by Sara Vogt - March 5, 2015

The first performance of ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ was held at the Imperial Theater in New York City on September 22, 1964. This musical also won the Tony Award for Best Musical, Best in Score and Book. In November of this year, Fiddler will once again be opening on Broadway for the fifth time.

Bruce Applegate, the Executive Director of the Wellsboro High School Theatre says, “you do not have to get a bus ticket or travel to New York City, you just have to come up here to Wellsboro High School and enjoy a tremendous production by the students of this school district and their production of Fiddler on the Roof.” The dates and times of the performances are March 5, 6,and 7th at 7:30 PM and a matinee on March 7th at 2:00 PM. All showings will be held in the high school auditorium.

The 33 cast members, 15 orchestra players and 12 Ensemble Cast Members, stage crew and construction set workers, backstage lighting, sound crew and choreography designers have been working for months to prepare an excellent production. The professional costumes also help set the stage in bringing the Tevye’s stories to life.

In today’s video we meet some of the cast and the directors to find out some of the details of the production.

You will probably recognize many of the songs in the performance, such as “Tradition,” “Matchmaker,” “If I Were A Rich Man,” and “Sunrise, Sunset.” And yes, you will find yourself singing along that evening and probably in the days following!

Tickets cost $7.00 for general admittance and $5.00 for students and senior citizens (age 60+).
