FamilyFun: Maple Weekend

You're invited to a fun, free family-friendly event!

by Hannah Thompson - March 8, 2019

Today, Home Page launches a new series: Family Fun! Join us once-a-month as we find inexpensive, fun activities that the whole family can enjoy. This month’s activity involves the annual Maple Weekend!

On March 16th and 17th, Hills Creek State Park will be hosting a Maple Weekend open house. This is a family-friendly event where attendees will learn the origins of all these sweet maple products. Arrive anytime between 10:00am and 3:00pm, and make sure you dress warmly as this is an outdoor event.

Many different stations will be set up and include activities like identifying maple trees, how sap is collected, and how you can gather it from the trees in your own yard! There will also be a demonstration and tour of a small sugar shack on the park premises.

This fun and educational event is free and open to the public! Use this link for a list of multiple locations you can go to for tours of local sugar shacks. Some sugar shacks offer specialty items like maple flavored cotton candy, maple mustard or even pancakes with maple syrup! We hope to see you there!
