When You’re Facing a Giant, Remember Who Stands With You

by Andrew Moore, Robert Brown - August 24, 2026

There are times in life when it feels like we’re facing a battle we simply cannot win. Maybe it’s temptation, financial struggles, fear, stress, or circumstances beyond our control. We try to find solutions and push ourselves to keep going, but eventually, we become exhausted and wonder, How am I ever going to overcome this?

The story of David and Goliath from the Bible reminds us that the answer isn’t always found in how strong we are, but in Who stands with us.

Goliath had every physical advantage. He was a trained warrior, heavily armed and intimidating. David had none of those things. But David had something more important: a history of God’s faithfulness.

Before facing Goliath, David remembered how God had already delivered him from danger. He told King Saul:

“The Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.”
— 1 Samuel 17:37

David wasn’t trusting in his own strength. He was trusting in the God who had carried him through previous battles.

When Goliath confronted him, David said:
“I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts.”
— 1 Samuel 17:45

David understood something we often forget: the battle wasn’t ultimately about how strong he was. It was about who He trusted. When we’re facing our own giants, it’s easy to focus on the size of the problem or the limits of our own strength. But that doesn’t mean we’re without hope. David’s past experiences reminded him that God was faithful. The same can be true for us. What God has brought you through in the past can remind you that He is still with you today.

So when you’re exhausted, discouraged, afraid, or unsure of what to do, don’t only look at the size of the problem. Look at God.
Remember what He has already brought you through. Trust His faithfulness, and take the next step.
