ERTCA & MU Public Safety Training Institute Announce New Training Center & $1M Grant

by Deb Bastian - March 24, 2022

A new training facility, The Erick J. Coolidge Center for Public Safety Training, Education and Innovation, will soon occupy the former State Police barracks outside of Mansfield. Mansfield University hosted a press conference on March 22, 2022 to present a $1million grant from the PA Department of Education to the Emergency Response Training & Certification Association (ERTCA ) training site which will be housed in the new facility.

Mansfield University Public Safety Training Institute (MUPSTI) is a regional training center on campus, providing professional education for criminal justice practitioners, first responders, public safety professionals and the public. MUPSTI received $209,000 from ERTCA to enhance their training opportunities. Many corporate partners were acknowledged including WRAP Reality, AT&T, Compliant Technologies, MCN Consulting, Twinn Inc., and Clearview Asset Protection. Speakers included U.S. Congressman Keller, PA State Representative Owlett, County Commissioner Erick Coolidge, Mansfield University Director of Police Services and Chief of Campus Police Scott Henry, in addition to others involved in the process and representatives from many corporate partners of ERTCA.

This project, conceived by Scott Henry, has been several years in development with public and private partnerships forming and working together to make it a reality. The center will also have the ability to take virtual training on the road to meet needs outside of the area. The training center will bring the best and most innovative technology to its programs with the goal to train outstanding first responders and to make communities better and safer.
