Email Fraud & Scams On the Rise Nationwide
Fraud and scams in the USA are on a tremendous rise. Today on the Home Page Network, we sit down with Jami Theiller, the FCCB Cash Management Sales Manager, to get some help.
On this broadcast, we focus on email fraud. Jami explains how businesses can be compromised in a variety of different ways. She explains exactly what happens when your email gets hacked and what the fraudsters do once they enter your computer system. They begin to target specific areas as they set up shop and research you. Once you have been violated, there are no secrets – from your accountant to your business associates, email lists, financial records – they have it all.
The scammers will then begin to create fraudulent email addresses and devise wicked schemes to trap you into doing something you don’t want to do. The fraudsters are exceptionally skilled in trapping employees who may get caught with their guard down with carefully crafted communication that looks authentic. For example, there have been incidences where employees have been instructed to send what looks like a legitimate payment request to a new address. It may begin with something like, “please note our address has changed.” Jamie tells us what to do to protect ourselves and our organizations and what the next necessary steps are if you think you’ve been had.
This is a significant feature, especially in light of the rapidly escalating fraud throughout the country. Take a few moments to prepare an excellent defensive strategy and watch this broadcast.
