Earth Day, Every Day, First Friday!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - May 2, 2016

June 3rd is shaping up to be one of the best Wellsboro First Fridays ever! Here’s just some of the things to enjoy and you know there will always be even more to do once you get here! There are shopping specials all over town that only happen on First Friday. We hope to see you there!

First Friday Activities:

The Sidewalk Chalk Contest will take place in front of Stained Glass Reflections. Apryl Tubbs and Tioga Partnership for Community Health will facilitate the contest and award 3 prizes courtesy of Peggy’s Candies & Gifts. Rain or shine, we will make great art and prizes will be awarded. In addition to the chance for a candy prize, each participant will walk away with an “I’m an Artist!” badge to take home.

The “Earth Day, Every Day scavenger hunt” is sure to be fun and easy. And more fun than ever because you now have TWO chances to win great prizes donated by our local businesses. There will be an easy crossword puzzle on each side of your sheet. Complete one puzzle for a chance to win. Complete both puzzles and you double your chance to win. So grab a hunt sheet from almost anywhere downtown and walk around town and stop in at the businesses listed on the sheet! Our businesses are looking forward to meeting you and giving you the word you need to help you win. Prizes? We have a dozen to award.

Emerge Healing Arts & Spa will be in front of The Red Skillet this month with FREE chair massages and maybe manicures too! We all look forward to that!

Dunham’s Department Store: So much going on at Dunham’s. Keeping with this month’s theme find a Green Toys Treasure Chest right inside the Cafe 1905. Kids can play with some Earth-friendly toys made with recycled materials and natural dyes. Or try out some water friendly toys for summer fun. Or maybe even mold with Kinetic Sane, a no mess tactile molding product. Also, kids can enjoy the “prize garden” and pick out a little prize. Whew! While the kids are playing enjoy “Frappy Hour” at Cafe 1905. Any flavor frappuccino for only $3.

Senior’s Creations on Main Street will host the Animal Care Sanctuary for June. Of course the ACS will bring a few furry friends with wagging tails for everyone to pet. Senior’s will be making special dog tags during First Friday. Make a needed donation to ACS and Senior’s will make a personalized engraved tag for your special furry friend for FREE!

Ginn & Vickery Law Office: Boy Scout Troop 24 will demonstrate knot tying and give away ropes and instruction sheets so you can practice what you’ve learned at home. They will also be offering a variety of meat sticks for sale to help raise money for a trip to Washington, DC this summer.

Pop’s Culture Shoppe: At Pop’s it’s always fun on Friday night because it’s Game Night when you can hang out, play and learn. On this First Friday it gets even better. Try the ridiculously silly game of “Happy Salmon.” And if you’re looking for a good deal, take 30% off Bug Bungalow, Butterfly Garden and Bug Magnifier. Earth Day, Every Day! Out front on Pop’s Porch listen to live music by Jesse Gotschal, AKA The Road Virus and check out artist Josh Crane’s fanciful painting style.

The Fifth Season: Celebrating Earth Day, Every Day – Reuse, Reduce, Recycle! Bring a gently used clothing item to be donated to Seeds of Hope and get a coupon for 15% off any regular priced item. Bring the children for a fun flower pot craft activity then get ready for summertime entertaining! Check out some great picnic and backyard BBQ items and sample delicious dips and cookies while you browse Fifth Season’s selection of dip chillers, dip mixes, cookie cutters and more, all at 15% off! There is even a “buy one, get one half-off sale!

Shabby Rue: Check out the SPECIAL SAVINGS $10 table with LOTS of items. SECRET SAVINGS throughout the store and as an added plus, every scavenger hunter that stops in gets a special treat. Sounds like fun!

Country Ski & Sports: Another great First Friday Special! Between 5 and 8 PM everything store-wide is 15% off. A great opportunity to pick up what you need for your outdoor sports at a discount. If that’s not enough take $25 off any used bike. Used bikes are tuned and ready to ride!

On the Deane Center Lawn: Artist members Liz Carras and Julie Schlosser of the Endless Mountains Arts Cooperative will host a drum circle activity for young and old alike. There will possibly be guitars and ukuleles to try out too. Artist George Morris will be turning wood on a lathe and will make and give small tops to kids.

Wild Asaph Outfitters will celebrate Earth Day Every Day with a pine cone bird feeder project to attract fine feathered friends to your own backyard. Inside, all Patagonia products are 10% off and this includes an extra 10% off Patagonia products on the sale rack. Patagonia is an environmentally conscious company that uses recycled plastic bottles to make high quality fleece clothing and also donates a portion of sales to preservation and restoration of the natural environment.
