Earth Day at Mill Cove

by Amiee Jones - April 7, 2017

Earth Day 2017 is fast approaching! Taking place at Mill Cove on Saturday, April 22nd, Earth Day is an exciting event with something to offer for children and adults alike. Dave Flesch (Vice President of Mill Cove, Inc. and Earth Day Chair) explained the origin of Earth Day. The official day was established in 1970, by Senator Gaylord Nelson, with the goal of raising public awareness about some severe environmental issues of the time. In regards to our local environment, Dave shared about nation wide, and local issues that have experienced great progress since Earth Day’s conception. Meanwhile, there are also improvements to be made. It is with this sentiment in mind that Earth Day is planned each year.

At the event you can expect vendors, information, activities/games, music, and plenty of other entertainment. There are plenty of locally made goods to peruse, as well as live animal and environmentally informational displays. Also making a comeback to Earth Day at Mill Cove, the thrilling zip line ride! Adding to the schedule is this year’s keynote speaker, Van Wagner. Enjoy this teacher and environmentalist’s presentation, planned for 1pm.

Mark April 22nd on your calendar to be sure that you are a part of Earth Day 2017 at Mill Cove! Admission for the event is free, but don’t forget to bring some cash for the vendors. For more information, visit millcovearea.org. You can also find information on the Facebook page titled “Mill Cove Environmental Center”, or feel free to call (570)662-3442 for more information.

Happy Earth Day!
