Deane Little Beans’ Gingerbread

by Chloe Quimby - December 9, 2015

The Deane Center for the Performing Arts is hosting the Deane Little Beans’ Gingerbread House Decorating on Saturday, December 12 at 10 a.m. in the Coolidge Theatre at 104 Main Street in Wellsboro. This free program is for children and their parents. In addition to decorating gingerbread houses, this program has been expanded to include storytelling, games, two movies, and refreshments.

Chandra Weigle, story time facilitator at the Green Free Library, will kick off the event by reading “Gingerbread Baby” by Jan Brett.

Brad Goodwin and Kelly Carson of the Red Skillet will demonstrate how to make and decorate a gingerbread house and each youngster will then make and decorate a gingerbread house to take home. All supplies needed to create the gingerbread houses and decorate them will be provided.

Once finished, each youngster will have a photo taken with his or her gingerbread house. All of the photos will be posted on the Fifth Season’s Facebook page. People will have a week to vote for their favorite gingerbread house in four different age categories – 2-4, 5-7, 8-10 and 11 and older. The winner in each category will be announced Saturday, December 19 and receive a prize worth at least $25. Among the prizes will be books and games, stuffed animals and gift certificates for movies and candy. Donating the gifts are the Arcadia Theatre, From My Shelf Books & Gifts, Peggy’s Candies & Gifts and Pop’s Culture Shoppe.

The youngsters will enjoy snacks and play reindeer games in the lobby, then return to the Coolidge Theatre to watch two movies, “Frosty the Snowman” and “Santa Claus is Coming to Town.”

Sponsors of this Deane Little Beans program are as follow: the Deane Center, the Fifth Season, Red Skillet, Dominion, Tops Friendly Markets and the Green Free Library.

This program is limited to the first 200 children. Reserve your seat now. Parents are asked to register their children by calling the Fifth Season at (570) 724-6910 or emailing Info@thefifthseason.biz.
