Coming Soon: Dickens of a Christmas!

by Chloe Quimby - December 3, 2015

For the past 31 years in Wellsboro, the first week of December has been a time of preparation for the upcoming Dickens of a Christmas weekend. Trees are waiting for decorations, while festive wreaths and garlands deck the streets. Excitement is in the air. Join us with family and friends this weekend to enjoy the Dickens of a Christmas Festival.

NYC hat designer Christine A. Moore of Christine A. Moore Millinery will showcase her specially designed “Dickens of a Christmas” Collection on Saturday, December 5th. Moore has been featured on the TODAY Show six times and is the official milliner to a variety of high profile derbies and races. A percentage of the proceeds will go to the Deane Center for the Performing Arts. The trunk show set-up displaying the hats for sale will be in the lobby of the Deane Center, 9am-4pm.

Moore’s Dickens Collection began at the Wellsboro festival over a decade ago, developing a great following over that time. This is the perfect opportunity to shop for holiday gifts and support the Deane Center! Her Fall 2015 Collection and Dickens Collection will also be available at the Fifth Season November 19th through Christmas.

Also on December 5th, the First Presbyterian Church of Wellsboro will be hosting an Alternative Christmas Fair from 10am-2pm. Shoppers will be able to donate in the honor of someone on their Christmas list—the ideal gift for someone who believes it’s more blessed to give than to receive.

Twelve different organizations will be represented—local, national, and international—including Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Child Evangelism Fellowship, Haven, His Thousand Hills, Medical Benevolence Foundation, National Alliance on Mental Illness, Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, Salvation Army, The Samaritan House, Seeds of Hope Partners, Tioga County Homeless Initiative and Wellsboro Food Pantry. More information will be available at each organization’s table. The First Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall is located at 130 Main Street in Wellsboro.
