Come to Christmas On Main Street, Dec. 8-11

by Sara Vogt - November 7, 2022

Christmas on Main Street 2022 begins Thursday evening, December 8th at the Gmeiner Art and Cultural Center. From 6 – 8 pm, this reception will honor and celebrate the workers who brought 100 years of glass-making at the Corning Glass Factory to Wellsboro. While viewing the pictures, many often see themselves or their family members who worked at the factory over the years—memories to treasure.

While strolling down the beautiful gas-lit boulevard on Friday, Saturday or Sunday, please visit the 30 locations displaying the historic ornaments made during World War 2. This year’s theme is The Town that Saved Christmas: A History of Creativity. Over 90% of all the glass Christmas tree ornaments for the world were made here in Wellsboro during this period.

On this fun family weekend, there are many activities for the whole family to enjoy! Live Nativity at the Deane Center, Horse drawn wagon rides, Santa’s reindeer, Arthur Christmas at the Arcadia, Community sing-along, Hat Trunk Show at Dunham’s with Christine A. Moore, and free hot chocolate at Senior Creations.

There are many time choices for you to join in on the Historic Walking Tour that starts at the Historic Penn Wells Hotel. Pre-registration is required, and the cost for the tour is $5.00. If you are interested, please call 856-371-5112 or email wellsboroglass@gmail.com.

Something new on the schedule this year is Swing! Come for a free intro swing dance lesson at 3:00 pm with ballroom teacher Kacy Hagen on Saturday the 10th! And then on that evening at 7:00 pm, enjoy free admission to come and dance or listen to the 17-member swing band – Starliters Big Band.

Come and have brunch with Santa from 9:00 am to 11:00 am on Sunday morning at the Penn Wells Hotel. Reservations are recommended, so please call 570-724-2111. The magical Light Parade with Santa is later that day at 5:00 pm.
