Clymer’s 5 goals lead Lady Hornets past Mansfield

by Ed Weaver - October 11, 2018

5 goals by sophomore Kerrah Clymer lifted the Wellsboro Varsity Girls Soccer team past rival North Penn-Mansfield on Wednesday, October 10.

Clymer put Wellsboro on the scoreboard first with 35:14 remaining off an assist from sophomore Cara Tennis but the Lady Tigers rallied to tie it up on a goal by Kiersten Mitstifer. Later in the half Wellsboro retook the lead as Clymer headed in a corner kick by senior Emma Poirier. Mansfield would tie it back up not even two minutes later on a Zoie McDermott penalty kick with 10:36 left.

North Penn-Mansfield broke the tie with 32:17 showing on the clock in the second half. Once agian, Mitstifer scored to give the Lady Tigers their first lead. North Penn-Mansfield hung on to the lead for the next 10 minutes before Clymer went on a tear and scored the game’s final three goals to give the Lady Hornets the win.

Clymer scored with 22:19 left as freshman Hannah Morey sent her a nice pass from midfield on a dead sprint to tie the game back up at three. Clymer’s fourth goal came off an assist from junior Cathryn Brought, who placed a pass into the keeper box for Clymer to beat the goalie. Her fifth goal came with 7:51 left as sophomore Jena Boyce assisted.

Wellsboro took 26 shots on goal and limited North Penn-Mansfield to just 8. Freshman Lilly Abadi made 3 saves in goal while the Lady Tigers’ Sara Swingle stopped 15 shots.

The win improves Wellsboro’s record to 8-7 overall (8-4 NTL) while the Lady Tigers fall to 3-12 (2-8 NTL). Both teams are back in action this Saturday. Wellsboro travels to Towanda and Mansfield is on the road in Williamson.
