Chamber Highlights – End of Summer Events

Hello and welcome to Wellsboro Home Page! Do you ever get the feeling that there is nothing to do? Well have no fear, the Chamber Highlights are here! Every month we sit down in the studio with Wellsboro Chamber President, Marsha Chesko. There are a lot of upcoming events for the months of August and September! We are blessed to live in such a big-small town with lots of variety in shops and restaurants! Whether your looking for ice cream, candy, steaks, burgers, seafood, or simply diner food, it can all be found right here in Wellsboro! There are a lot of summer clearance sales in our local businesses making room for fall and winter items. Starting off, we have some great sales at Wild Asaph Outfitters from August 19th through September 4th. Dunham’s Department store and In My Shoes also have some really great deals going on, so be sure to stop in!

Don’t forget, every month at the Gmeiner Art and Cultural Center there is a new display. You don’t want to miss it!

On the weekend of August 18th-21st the Arcadia Movie Theater is hosting the Endless Mountain Film Festival. All weekend there will be showings of films from 8AM until after midnight!

The 14th annual Hickory Fest will be taking place on August 19th ,20th, and 21st at the Stony Fork Creek Campground. Hickory Fest is an outdoor festival of bluegrass and acoustical music. The festival benefits the Sue Cunningham Memorial Scholarship and the Tioga County Chapter of the American Cancer Society. The musician lineup for the festival features Donna the Buffalo, Claire Lynch Band, Driftwood, Harris Brothers, Verlon Thompson, Well Strung, Billy Gilmore & Friends, Hillbilly Gypsies,Van Wagner, Big Sky, Cherry Flats Ridge Pluckers, Grass Stained Genes, Dan Shipe Band, Short Straw Pickers, Sue’s Brothers, Quartermoon, Megan McGarry, Grain, and Blue Sky Mission Club. At the Victoria Theater in Blossburg, there will be a performance called Blues at Bloss with Gabe Stillman on August 19th at 7:30PM.

There will be a Char-ity Auction event that will benefit the Wellsboro Art Club on August 26th, 7PM at the Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center. You can check to see some of the painted chairs that will be featured in the auction by visiting local businesses downtown.

At the Deane Center on August 26th at 7:30PM Sundown Sally will be performing-Americana, Bluegrass, and a hint of blues!

Classic Car Cruise on Saturday, August 27th. The car shows are always fun! Bring the family out and go back in time!

Hamilton Gibson will host their third annual Dueling Pianos on Sunday, August 28th at 2:30pm at the Deane Center. This event will be featuring pianists Pat Davis, Mike Watkins, and David Knauss.

Don’t miss out on our next First Friday event on September 2, 2016. This month’s theme is the Art of Wine. First Friday is a community gathering on the first Friday of every month. There are lots of free, fun activities for children including face painting, scavenger hunts, games, snacks, musical performances, and more! The local businesses and organizations come together to promote family-friendly fun!

At the Deane Center on September 2 at 7:30PM History Comes Alive with Elenor Roosevelt portrayed by Leslie Goddard.

The Deane Center has another performance from Stage Fright on September 9th at 7:30PM.

On September 24th from noon-2:00PM, The Fifth Season Women’s Boutique will be hosting their Brimming with Style Hat Show & Champagne Luncheon featuring Milliner, Christine Moore. There will be a three-course champagne luncheon provided while you watch and listen to models and Christine’s demonstrations.

There will be two upcoming marathons available to the public. September 10th-11th is The Pine Creek Challenge which is a 100 mile and 100K race. On October 9th in the beautiful mountains of Tioga County there will be the Green Monster Trail Challenge 15K, 25K, and 50K.

The Laurel Classic Mountain Bike Challenge will be on Saturday, September 10th. This challenge features a 22 mile course with climbs, and various qualities of terrain. There is also a easier 11 mile course for novice riders.
