Career Day Returns to Towanda High School
On Thursday, March 20, students from Troy and Canton area school districts — along with students from districts across Bradford and Sullivan counties — traveled to Towanda for the Northern Tier Regional Planning & Development Commission’s annual career day event. Employers from around the region and the state were in attendance to answer any questions the students had about their respective fields.
“When we plan the career fair we try to cover all of the 16 career clusters,” said Barb Knapp, career coach for Canton High School. “We do our best to make sure they’re all represented.”
Some of the businesses represented at the event included First Citizen Community Bank (FCCB), Bradford Hills Nursing & Rehabilitation, and the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Bureau of Forestry.
“I just hope they come in with an open mind and realize there’s a lot of opportunities out there, whether it be going into the workforce, or going to college, or a trade school, they just need to know that there’s a lot of opportunity for them,” said David Dekay, branch manager at FCCB.
Students noted that many of the jobs represented at the event were ones of which they had been previously unaware. While some students used the day as a way to explore a wide range of possibilities, others already had a strong idea of what careers they plan to pursue. Regardless the day proved beneficial for all involved.
