Canton’s team wins Envirothon for Bradford County

Canton’s team wins Envirothon for Bradford County

by Rachel Heitzenrater - May 17, 2022

CANTON — Canton’s Bigfoot Assassins 10 team recently won Envirothon at the Bradford County level last Thursday, May 5.
Testing took place at Mt. Pisgah State Park, just outside of Troy, from about 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event saw about 6 different schools with some schools having multiple teams.

Canton’s Assassins team consisted of: Lucas Drever, Tyson Bedford, Noah Gibble, Samantha Morgan, Camille McRoberts.

“I am very proud of all of my students. The ones that put in extra work and efforts deserve the placing that they earned. If one does not take advantage of the opportunities present, they will not reap as many rewards. This team is doing great things,” said Tom Hojnowski.

About Envirothon

Hundreds of teachers and professionals throughout Pennsylvania guide high school students through this natural resource environmental education program that combines classroom learning and outdoor activities. This exposure to nature and seeing how humans impact the natural world provide invaluable lessons for understanding ecosystems and our environment.

At the Envirothon, teams of five high school students compete in field testing using their knowledge in five topic areas – Soils and Land Use, Aquatic Ecology, Forestry, Wildlife, and Environmental Issues. A current environmental issue is chosen each year as the “hot topic” for the focus of this station as well as the oral presentation component.

The state competition will be held onsite at Camp Mount Luther in Mifflinburg on Wednesday, May 25, its 38th competition. The oral component of the competition will be held virtually. More information on Envirothon can be found at www.envirothonpa.org.
