Canton’s Parker and Ward punch tickets to Hershey
WILLIAMSPORT — Canton juniors Riley Parker and Hayden Ward survived the “blood round” to punch their tickets to states with third-place finishes here Saturday at the PIAA Northeast Regionals, while junior Bailey Ferguson finished sixth.
Parker, the fifth seed at 172 pounds, advanced to the semifinals with an 8-3 win over Lackawanna Trail’s Tyler Rozanski in the quarterfinals, but lost via fall in 1:59 to Southern Columbia’s Garrett Garcia.
Parker bounced back to blank Mountain View’s Nathan Ofalt, 5-0, in the blood round, then edge North Penn-Liberty’s Kohen Lehman, 3-2, in the third-place bout.
Ward, who pinned Western Wayne’s Nick Arcadian in 2:42 in the quarterfinals, ran into the state’s top-ranked 145-pounder — Montgomery’s Conner Harer — in the semifinals, and lost via a 17-2 technical fall.
Ward bounced back with a dominating 12-0 major decision over Loyalsock’s Braden Vincenzes in the “blood round,” and an 8-0 major decision of Line Mountain’s Mason Leshock in the third-place match.
At 152 pounds, Ferguson, the fifth seed, was knocked into the consolation bracket via a loss to fourth-seeded Deegan Ross of Lackawanna Trail in the quarterfinals Friday night.
Ferguson opened wrestlebacks Saturday with a 6-3 win over Lewisburg’s Chase Wenrich, but lost via second-period fall to second-seeded Cooper Price of Wyoming Area in the “blood round.”
