Canton Warriors Defeat Panthers, 51-40

by Wyatt Wood - September 16, 2024

Last Friday the 13th the Canton Warriors caged the North Penn-Mansfield Panthers on the gridiron, with the final score: 51-40.

Canton worked their way to the goal line, then Aydin Holcomb started the night off for the Warriors with an outside run. The kick was good, getting Canton up first, 7-0. Next, the Warriors 4th and 8 from the 18 complete a field goal to pu the Warriors up 10-0. The Warriors’ Holcomb found the red zone again to finish the first quarter 17-0.

In the second, the Panthers found some open field heading to the air as Cooper Shaw sent it to Luke Kreger for the score. North Penn Mansfield faked the kick and went for two, getting the Panthers on the board, 17-8.

After another Warriors score – the Panthers advanced down the field again – then Kreger faked the motion and dished the ball to Isaiah Kling – touchdown Panthers! Shaw found Kreger in the corner of the end zone for the two-point conversion to make it 24-16, Warriors by the end of the half.

The Panthers started the second half strong, lined up on the 32. Shaw dropped back and sent a huge ball down the sideline to Kreger for another touchdown. They went for two, but the Warriors held 24-22.

Canton responded, smashing their way down the field and over the goal line as Fitch called his own number, making it 31-22 after the extra point. Warrior Bailey Gardner received the screen on the outside and found the open field to put Canton further ahead, 38-22.

The Panthers scored once more in the quarter, ending the third, 38-28 – Warriors.

Panthers on the Warriors’ 30 – Shaw in the pocket sailed one to Charles Aumick – getting the Panthers close: 38-34.

North Penn-Mansfield put up one more touchdown on the night, but the Canton Warriors could not be stopped – ending the game, 51-40.

The Canton Warriors will be back next week on Friday, facing Montgomery at home and the Panthers will be on the road to Athens to face the Wildcats on Saturday.
