Canton Holds Career Day at Elementary School
5th and 6th grade students got to learn about jobs and careers in the sixteen different career clusters at the Canton Elementary Career Fair on Monday, May 5th. Each group of students got the chance to go around to different stations where career representatives discussed what they do every single day, as well as participate in hands-on activities for the students to interact with to better understand their duties. This experience painted a picture of just how many choices there are in the world of jobs, careers, and professions, opening the door to brand new possibilities for many of the students who participated.
“Students sometimes only know about the handful of careers that they see the people in their family doing, or something they have read about the book or seen on TV, but it’s a whole lot different to actually meet with and speak to an actual person who’s working in that career field in person,” explains Elementary School Counselor Corrin West. “[Students can] get an idea of what their day-to-day looks like, the kind of tools they use to do their job, the kind of training that they need, so they have a better idea of what all is out there.”
