The Tenth Annual Canton Cares Project Shoe Drive allowed families throughout the community to pick from a large selection of clothing, shoes, hygiene products, and more—all for free! Prior to the distribution event on Monday, August 3rd, local businesses and community members made monetary and product donations to the Canton Elementary School, which played an integral part in bringing this event to life.
“I think for people to understand that it’s a rural community and everyone pitches in is the biggest important factor because it wouldn’t be possible without it. We have organizations like churches who have for years- way back with the apple dumpling gang- they would go and shop and bring us sneakers; community churches, the community youth group, community organizations, all different things help donate to make it possible and thanking all of them is the most important part,” Deb Fitzwater, coordinator of the Shoe Drive, explained.
