Canton Church Hosts Youth Theatre Workshop
North Street Community Church in Canton is hosting a Family Life Youth Theatre Workshop this week, which will culminate in a performance at noon on Friday, June 20 in the church’s sanctuary. Youth Theater Workshop Instructor Michael Bartz explained the plot of the show and its impact on local students.
“This show follows a student, Alex, who has a lot of trouble at school with a bully. His Sunday school teacher gives him a journal of hers that is this awesome fantasy story with a bunch of characters that experience doubt and temptation and other trials that they have to accomplish to get a secret weapon, which is the sword of the spirit, the Bible. At the end of the show, they get that, and the student realizes this and he realizes how he can pray for this bully at school and how we can handle different trials in his life.
It’s a super fun show. Our kids are having a blast doing it so far.”
Bartz went on to say, “The end goal isn’t really the performance. The performance is to show parents and guardians what we’ve learned so far through the week, so we teach them the basics and acting, singing, and dancing, and also improv.
We also focus on giving the glory to God and it’s a Christ centered workshop and learning atmosphere, so they learned a ton throughout this week. I grew up in this program and it has transformed my life and I’m hoping and praying that a lot of the kids- this will be in their stories later on as well.”
The performance at noon on Friday will be be free and open to the public. The church is located at 177 North St. in Canton. For more information, call the church at (570) 673-4227 or find North Street Community Church on Facebook.
